Accessibility and Our Commitment to Inclusion
Braemar Retirement Centre is committed to fostering an environment that is inclusive, respectful, and accessible for everyone—residents, staff, volunteers, families, and visitors alike.
Accessibility is at the heart of how we deliver care, support our team, and welcome our community. We are dedicated to identifying, removing, and preventing barriers for people with disabilities. This commitment is guided by the core principles of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA): dignity, independence, integration, and equal opportunity.
Whether it’s through service delivery, communication, or employment practices, we strive to ensure that everyone at Braemar feels welcomed, valued, and supported.
Our Ongoing Accessibility Plan
Braemar Retirement Centre has developed a multi-year accessibility plan that outlines how we are working to meet and exceed AODA standards. This plan is reviewed and updated regularly to reflect our progress and respond to the evolving needs of our community.
Key priorities include:
- Enhancing physical accessibility throughout our building and grounds
- Improving communication supports and formats, including alternate formats and assistive technologies
- Training all staff on accessibility standards and inclusive care practices
- Embedding accessibility in all aspects of employment, from recruitment and onboarding to professional development and workplace accommodations
We consult with staff, residents, families, and other stakeholders to ensure our plan is relevant, responsive, and forward-thinking. Our goal is not just compliance, but leadership in creating a truly accessible and inclusive environment.
