Licensee/ Administrator – Archie MacGowan

Hello and welcome to Braemar!!
My name is Archie MacGowan, and I am the Administrator and Owner of the home. I was born and was raised in King City until the age of 13 when my family all moved to Wingham. They had purchased Brookhaven and Calendar nursing homes where I began by cutting grass and assisting with painting and maintaining the buildings. My Father Mac was the administrator, my Mother Janet (Tig) did the payroll and kept the books and my Grandmother Ann volunteered and helped with resident activities. Eventually I took over the oversight of the housekeeping department as well as maintenance and did payroll. In 1998 I became the administrator while my father continued to come in and assist with various projects until his passing in 2009. We continue to be truly family owned and operated into the next generation with my son Ryan helping out on occasion with maintenance and my wife Christine helping out around the home anywhere we need help.
We are a truly person centred, family owned, and operated home and we take great pride in ensuring that we create purpose for all who come to call this their home.

I thoroughly enjoy being around the residents and interacting with them. I collaborate with a Registered Dietitian from Vida Dietetics who comes in weekly. We have a 4-week rotational menu cycle that includes 3 meals and 3 snacks per day. We follow 2 menus throughout the year: fall/winter and spring/summer. I take part in a Food Committee with the residents each month to get feedback on the menu and overall meals and how the kitchen staff can improve. They approve all the menus, and they can request changes throughout the menu. I’m looking forward to continuing my schooling and learning new knowledge within the field.
